In all countries, industries that are both small and large require efficient methods of transporting raw materials, parts, and products from one area to another. In the past this would have involved many hands, but today it is far more productive to use belt conveyor systems. They are also a lot cheaper than the cost of hiring a team of workers to constantly be moving material and products from A to B.

At first glance most belt conveyor systems can seem like a complicated design, but the basic concept is simple. A motor drives a belt made out of rubber, plastic, metal, or a strong fabric. They have a wide range of applications across many different types of industry, for example handling cement, rocks, food, parts, and more.

As mentioned above, a belt conveyor would help any business reduce labor costs. The first belt conveyor systems came about in the early part of the twentieth century as industrialization and manufacturing increased dramatically.

The automotive industry was one of the first to understand the potential for belt driven conveyor systems; they helped to improve productivity as workers could stand in one place while the partially assembled cars were transported from area to area inside the factory with the minimal of effort.

If speed and space are important considerations to you then a conveyor belt can make a real difference to your productivity. They can be customized to fit almost any situation or workplace.

Perhaps the greatest advantage of a belt conveyor system is their flexibility. There is almost no end to their applications. Apart from production lines they are also an essential piece of equipment for many aggregate industries such as mining.

An aggregate belt conveyor would have been designed to carry heavy loads; they would typically feature impact beds that help in absorbing the force of the loads. If maintained correctly any conveyor belt system can be in service for years if not decades.

There are also specialized belts available. For example some feature side guards to ensure no product can spill or tumble off the line. Also there are magnetized belts available which are normally utilized by companies involved with scrap metals. Other designs include steel belts to transport hot parts and products and sanitised belts used in the food processing and distribution industries.

A belt can be set up to run in a curve or a straight line. Where space is less it is possible to use a belt that has a low profile. It is also possible to splice and join belts together for an increased reach.

Whatever you plan on using the conveyor belt for it is important to check it over every week, or perhaps even daily, for wear and tear. If too much weight is placed on a belt it can crack and split which would have a dramatic impact on your companies production line. Also a damaged belt can be a real threat to the health and safety of those people in proximity.
Article by Paul Timmerman

Learning all there is to know about high quality conveyor systems to probably take more than one lifetime. However, it’s always the case that one doesn’t need to learn a universe of things when it comes to a conveyor system. Rather, one should understand what these systems are, first of all, and their basic components and attributes.

To begin with, a conveyor system is a handling system that is mechanical in nature and that specializes in moving materials and goods from one location to another. It conveys them, in other words. The most comprehensive systems never even see the touch of a human being along the path where they pick up an item at one point and then deliver that item at yet another point.

These kinds of systems work very well for the transportation of items that are bulky or heavy, and they can specialize in conveying them efficiently along a given path. Industries where such systems are commonplace include those that specialize in packaging and handling of materials, with many other kinds of systems able to be customized for just about any industry.

As far as the general kinds of industries where conveyor systems may be seen, perhaps the most common is the automotive industry. It was Henry Ford himself who created the auto assembly line which made mass production of automobiles possible. What he did was basically create a very long conveyor that moved a very basic product at the beginning along the path that saw it emerge as a complete product at the end.

There are also other common industries where conveyor systems are a vital part of industry existence. Two such examples are the bottling industry and the pharmaceutical industry. The most basic function of such systems are that they have a path along which they transport an item which will either be built up or made ready for packaging and shipping. Another type is the pneumatic conveyor system.

How this particular system works is that it moves powdered or pulverized materials along through a system of ducts and pipes. Think of something powdered like cement and how it is blown through these pipes via a strong stream of air, which is the pneumatic portion of the system. The automobile assembly line and the bottling or packaging lines, along with pneumatic systems, make up the bulk of such systems.

As far as maintaining and caring for systems of these types, they are generally given all of the attention possible due to their existence as a virtual lifeline for any company that specializes in assembly or manufacturing or transportation of goods. Recent studies have shown that most such systems break down due to something extremely prosaic; lack of lubrication of moving parts.

Learning all there is to know about high quality conveyor systems, then, means that one should recognize that these systems can be as basic or as intricate as needed and that they can literally move mountains if they have to. There are a wide variety of systems in existence, and the single most important thing to do in caring for one is to make sure all moving parts are properly lubricated.

The SSI Autocruiser is an economic and flexible transport system for small and medium throughputs. It is able to convey almost any good up to 30 kg of weight. This material handling system is based on a simple yet robust track network, on which each vehicle runs autonomously. This makes the SSI Autocruiser easily scalable and also suitable for larger distances. It is therefore possible to replace other conveyor technology, such as forklifts and roller conveyors, in the supply chain.

Industrial Kinetics developed a pallet conveyor system that delivers materials to each assembly line around the midpoint of the parallel assembly lines. We accomplished this by locating an inbound and an outbound conveyor perpendicular to the assembly lines at the midpoint of the lines, at the receiving dock. The material would accumulate, and elevate one pallet at a time to an overhead pallet conveyor loop. The pallets would convey on this loop to one of four lowerators. The lowerator would lower the load to ground level and accumulate for forktruck pickup. Adjacent to each of the four lowerators we incorporated four lifts with inbound accumulation for the removal of packing materials and empty pallets. The packing material would be conveyed out to an accumulation conveyor immediately next to the inbound material accumulation conveyor. This eliminated the long forklift trips around the end of line.

Selecting the most appropriate conveyor component for your custom-built conveyor relies largely on three factors: the load product, reloading strategy, plus discharge technique. Recognizing these will better help you to come up with the conveyor materials and overall design and style designed to supply the most effective and long-lasting conveyor with regards to your purposes.

Ready-built conveyor machines are typically accessible in the market. These types of conveyor devices, for the most part, will certainly suffice the needs of an ordinary factory line. Even so, in some cases, a custom-built or specialised conveyor device is considered necessary. This could entail something as straightforward as using a far more durable cloth for the conveyor rollers, or some thing a lot more challenging such as identifying the needs involving every single conveyor component.

Picking just the right conveyor components is extremely essential in constructing any conveyor unit. Even though it may be tempting to just go for the best quality elements; very best when it comes to robustness and rate it may well let a conveyor to perform with out developing issues, anybody having business foresight knows that it’ll of course not end up being cost-effective, and generally just be counterproductive. It’ll defeat the very cause for acquiring a customised conveyor! In the end, finding just the correct conveyor parts to utilise will certainly ensure that you wind up by having a conveyor machine that is one of the most useful for the existing operation requirements, while being cost-effective and also forward looking. Forward looking in that it’s going to be well suited with regard to long term specifications.

A few of the most significant factors to consider once picking conveyor components for your customised conveyors include the materials, conveyor loading concerns, as well as conveyor release factors. Several other things also greatly influence the choosing of conveyor components which include bearings, shafts, along with shaft seals, nevertheless the units detailed below will provide you with a very good overview on the selection practice.

Product – Ensure you take into account the kind of components you will be packing on the conveyor. Sort out precisely how abrasive and harsh the load substances are, in order to have the know-how to determine the kind of materials you’ll need your current conveyor components to be built of. If the products are non-corrosive as well as non-abrasive, a run of the mill Pvc or mild metal conveyor rollers will be sufficient. Nonetheless, stainless steel may end up being crucial with regard to more harsh loads. Therefore, you ought to think of the flowability of the materials. This should not have an impact on the materials for the conveyor component but will decide the absolute maximum position of repose that for the conveyor bed. However, in the event you are utilising a flat-bed conveyor, then this shouldn’t turn out to be an issue. Some other characteristics of the load material you’ll want to take note of comprise moisture, physical structure, proportions, and so on. This will certainly identify in case you will need conveyor belting or can simply place the materials on the conveyor rollers, and it’ll establish the sort of belting you’ll need.

Conveyor reloading methods – Every conveyor has its capabilities or capability. Its really critical to be aware of the capability of the conveyor system you would like developed and to ensure that the capability is not breached. Ensuring that the amount of load does not meet or exceed the limits relies on recognizing how you decide on loading the items on to the conveyor. When the load comes out of a unit which has a regulated output device, the great news is that this isn’t so much of a problem. On the other hand, surges occasionally do happen. To help withstand sudden surge in loads, you’ll want to use extra components for instance screw feeders. If screw feeders are not to be put to use, just try heavy-duty conveyor rollers to account for surge in loads. In the event that packing is actually completed manually, make certain that you install a simple warning sign at the inlet to point out the full load that is currently on the conveyor. This will guarantee that users are consistently aware of the the highest level of capability is about to be reached.

Conveyor discharge programs – Standard conveyor release methods used involve the common discharge spout, flush end discharge, mechanically managed gates, basic opening, open bottom part release, trough end release, and open end release. The strategy of discharge will typically not really impact the option of conveyor components for example rollers, belting, and motors, unless it can be to be connected to one more conveyor. As mentioned above, if the capacity is regulated your next conveyor will most likely require a screw feeder for the purpose of protection from surges in load output/input.
